The design of Antilia is based on two themes derived from Indian culture – the Sun and the Lotus, where the colours used on the outside are white, beige, and brown.

Antilia has been constructed using the ancient science of Vastu Shastra in India. Upon completion in 2010, the family did not move into the house because of Vastu reasons.

The land had been occupied by an orphanage named “Currimbhoy Ebrahim Khoja Yateemkhana", which was set up way back in 1895. In 2002, the land was purchased by the Antilia Commercial Private Limited (under Mukesh Ambani) at an estimated price of $4.4 million.
The plan of construction was sanctioned by BMC in 2003; the process of constructing the building started from 2006 to 2010. The process of the house-warming ceremony took place in November 2010.
