Lucknow Kanpur Expressway opening date

Following the Purvanchal and Ganga Expressway, the third expressway of Uttar Pradesh is the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway. The name of the expressway also includes "Awadh Expressway".

This is one of the most important infrastructure projects of Uttar Pradesh, which will help in saving time on travel between Lucknow and Kanpur. This 6-lane access-controlled expressway will help in saving time as well as improving connectivity. The length of the expressway is 63 km.

he budget allocated for constructing this expressway is 4,700 crores. According to NHAI, the construction of the Awadh Expressway started in January 2022. It is officially opened to the public on July 13, 2026, with travel time between the two cities reduced from 2.5 hours to just 35–45 minutes.

The project will be beneficial in improving the region's economy, connecting urban and industrial areas. It provides a pleasant travel experience between Lucknow and Kanpur. Moreover, the diversion of traffic towards this expressway will improve the ambience of the city.

Lucknow Kanpur Expressway

The Awadh Expressway will be connected to the Ring Road at Lucknow so that the traffic on the main road is reduced. This will be the first expressway of this kind to be built in Uttar Pradesh. This road will run parallel to the NH 25 for a distance of 3.5 kilometres.

This expressway will originate from Shaheed Path in Lucknow, linking Nawabganj to Kanpur via Banthara, Bani, Datauli Kantha, Taura, Neorna, Amarsas, and Rawal.

The Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway route is as follows:

  • From the Starting Point: Shaheed Path in South Lucknow
  • To the Ending Point: Azad Chauraha near Ganga Bridge in Kanpur
  • To the Ending Point: Azad Chauraha near Ganga Bridge in Kanpur
